It’s been 40 years since Stephen Schwartz’s original PIPPIN, the story of a prince on a journey to find the meaning of life, has been on Broadway.

I didn’t get a chance to see the musical in its first life (too young!), but as a fan of Bob Fosse, I’ve always wanted to experience it. A few weeks ago at the Music Box Theatre I finally got my chance, and in its second coming, PIPPIN’s revival did not disappoint.

It was interesting to see Fosse’s choreography paired with a reinvented Cirque de Soleil-esque performance and the casting was incredible. Actors included Matthew James Thomas (Spider-Man), Patina Miller (The Sister Act), Terrance Mann (The Addams Family), and it really made you realize how many talented people live in NYC. One of my favorite scenes involved a character singing, dancing and hula-hooping across the stage.

PIPPIN is approximately 2 hours and 35 minutes and runs until the end of December.
