Most people under the age of 30 have between 10 and 40 moles. As you get older, moles tend to change in size, color, shape and texture. You must know your ABC’s. No…not the alphabet. Identifying potentially harmful moles can be done by checking your moles for the following 5 characteristics:
A: Asymmetry. One half of the mole is different than the other half.
B: Border. The borders of the mole are ragged or irregular.
C: Color. The color of the mole is not the same throughout or has hues of tan, brown, black, blue or red.
D: Diameter. The diameter of the mole is bigger than a pencil’s eraser.
E: Evolution. Any changes in the mole over time.
Be sure to take note of any changes that might appear and schedule an appointment with your dermatologist.
