If you are Chinese, Korean or Japanese, you might be familiar with the red glow on your skin that comes after drinking alcohol. Nausea and heart palpitations are other side effects that often accompany the flush. These symptoms indicate a genetic deficiency that means the body cannot properly metabolize alcohol.

However, according to medical studies, these signs are more than just an inconvenience, “they are a red flag for one of the deadliest cancers worldwide.” Worse, the more you drink, the more this risk increases. People with the flushing responses who drink two beers a day are “10x more likely to develop esophageal cancer than people who are able to metabolize alcohol properly.”

If you do suffer from “Asian Skin Glow”, make sure to discuss this risk thoroughly with your doctor!
