Pets are essential to health and wellbeing, and if you don’t believe me, ask Oprah!

Living with animals can lead to lower blood pressure, a stronger heart, better fitness, and all around more happiness.

Because of these reasons and more, I’m a big fan of animal roommates and want to introduce my three with you:

Simon is a 14 year old Abbassi mix. He enjoys whining, sleeping on heaters and avoiding Max.

Max is a two year old of indeterminate origins. His mom was found in a garbage can after gaving birth to four, one of which was Max. Later as an older kitten, we found each other at a Petsmart in Houston, TX. Upon my return to NYC my vet promptly pointed out that there “are [already] great cats in NYC looking for homes,” but I was too smitten to say goodbye.

Woody is a cockatiel that originally belonged to famous pop artist Ronny Cutrone.  When Ronny was unable to care for Woody, he left the bird with his ex-wife/my BFF, Kelly Cutrone. Afterward, I promptly adopted Woody from Kelly, and moved him to the Upper East Side.

Being the muse of Ronny’s most famous series, Woody Woodpecker, Woody had grown up surrounded by famous people (e.g. Joan Jett, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taylor Dane), so living with me and my cats was a huge letdown for him. Three years later, though, Woody has found peace on the UES, and now enjoys bossing me and the cats around.
