The Story

Founder/CEO, Patti Pao, discovered the power of the Aquabeautine XL® hatching enzyme while on a tour of a salmon hatchery in Western Norway. She noticed that the workers’ hands, which were submerged in the hatching water all day, looked as if they were in their 20’s, while their faces looked much older than their actual age.

Baby salmon release this enzyme in order to get out of their egg shell. Unlike a chicken, who can peck its way out of its eggshell, a baby salmon needs assistance. This is because the salmon egg membrane is very tough and rubbery. When they are ready to be born, they release the hatching enzyme. The hatching enzyme carves a hole in the eggshell creating an opening that the baby salmon swim out of unharmed.

When this enzyme is applied to human skin, it only digests the dead skin cells leaving the living cells untouched. The hatchery workers’ hands looked so young because their hands were receiving continuous exfoliation without any red, thinning or flaky skin.

Targeted for Patients with Sensitive Skin
This hatching enzyme is unique in that it provides an efficacious and safe solution to all patients with sensitive skin.

Clinical Studies Published in Peer-reviewed Medical Journals
It works similarly to retinols and glycolic acid but has no side effects (source: Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, November 2015) and if a patient wants to use a retinol, they can apply over the retinol to reduce the appearance of red and flaky skin. A recent study showed that products containing the hatching enzyme can be safely applied immediately after post-peel procedure and significantly reduce the downtime. Aquabeautine XL®
Revolutionary enzyme that is only found in Restorsea products. Extraordinary because the enzyme only digests the dead skin cells leaving the living cells untouched. Suitable for sensitive skin types as it is the only exfoliator that does not leave skin with a red, itchy and flaky appearance.

Key Ingredients
In addition to Aquabeautine XL® (INCI: Hydrolyzed Roe), all Restorsea products contain Vitamin C and Brown Algae.

No Animal Testing or Harm
Restorsea never tests on animals. The hatching enzyme is completely sustainable. After the baby salmon are herded into another tank to finish growing, and the unhatched eggs and egg shells are removed to be recycled into fish food, the post-hatching water is collected and stored in a frozen state. When the enzyme is ready to be harvested, the water is thawed and the enzyme is filtered from the post-hatching water through a proprietary and patented process. The enzyme is then shipped in a frozen state to the U.S. where it is incorporated into Restorsea’s patented formulations.

How the Enzyme Works

The hatching enzyme is too large to penetrate beyond the second layer of skin (see big blue dots below). The enzyme is designed by nature to digest only the dead skin cells because if it harmed living cells, it would damage the baby salmon. This is why when applied to human skin, the hatching enzyme sits at the “horny” layer of skin where it continuously digests the dead skin cells leaving the living cells untouched.

In contrast, retinols and glycolic acids (see small red dots below) are small molecules which work by chemically burning through layers of living and dead skin cells. This results in thinning the skin making it sensitive to UV light and results in the appearance of red and flaky skin.
