Okay, so those M&M’s and Oreos aren’t completely drying out your skin, but they certainly aren’t helping it stay smooth either.

For well-nourished and good-feeling skin, Claudia Aguirre of The International Dermal Institute recommends foods such as salmon (sound familiar?), flaxseeds, walnuts, evening primrose oil, borage oil, and other products that are rich in essential fatty acids.

This is because dietary fats are processed by the liver for delivery to skin and other tissues, and foods containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 help protect skin from photo-damage, photo-aging and alleviate symptoms associated with skin sensitivity.

Inversely, a diet made up of foods that lack lipid content and water content result in rough, flaky and vulnerable conditions.

So the next time you’re shopping for groceries, remember to think of your skin, because after all we are what we eat.
