A tough workout is great for your body, but it also might be tough on your skin.

Breakouts can occur from blocked and dirty pores and an excess of oil production – both of which are increased in likelihood by large amounts of sweat and bacteria. Combine this sweat and bacteria with the friction from tight gym clothes, and your chances of blemish occurrences increases even more. It’s both smelly and awful at the same time.

Fortunately, there are some easy things you can do to lower your chances from fitness forming acne:

  • Cleanse skin immediately after working out (salicylic acid-based toner or facials wipes make for a good, immediate alternative)
  • Use oil-free anti-acne facial moisturizer
  • Wear silky, moisture-wicking fabrics
  • Avoid covering forehead with a headband or cap for long periods of time
