Our friends at Union Square Dermatology recently brought our attention to a new skin treatment called BLU-U.

This innovative treatment delivers a light that reacts to a cream applied topically on the face and chest. The reaction destroys actinic keratosis (AK) – potentially precancerous skin patches.  There is no way to detect which AK’s will progress to skin cancer, so if you have significant sun damage, it can be very important to treat your skin early.

A nice side effect is that this treatment also kills the bacterium that causes acne. It has been effective enough that some patients receive BLU-U just to treat their breakouts.  And it only takes 15 minutes in a dermatologist office!

PS. For those interested, the procedure is often covered by insurance as preventative care for skin cancer.
